We would like to deeply thank everyone who helped make the fundraiser a huge success! The turnout at Blancos was tremendous (over 500 people) and your out-flowing of support for Chris was amazing. Really goes to show what a great fishing community we have in the area, as we had friends and family from all over the region in attendance. Without your help, none of this would have been possible. We really appreciate everyone helping Chris with this difficult time and hope, with your support, he'll be joining us back on the water shortly. Please keep him in your thoughts and thanks again!

Over the last thirty years, Capt. Chris Phillips has become one of the most beloved members of the Texas fly-fishing community. For those of you who might not know Chris, he was one of the first anglers to chase the saltwater fishes of Texas with a fly rod, and he has been introducing new anglers to the sport of fly fishing for longer than many of us can remember. Chris is a past president of the Texas Fly Fishers, and he has been guiding fly anglers on the waters of Galveston Bay for well over a twenty years.
Even if you are not a member of the fly fishing community, chances are you have crossed paths with Chris at Fishing Tackle Unlimited, where he works when he is not on water. Chris has helped many an angler select the right tackle for his or her next big adventure, and he always has been available to share his knowledge and experiences with those wanting to learn. Few match his passion and generosity.
Not too long ago, Chris was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. He has found care at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and underwent surgery on Feb 11th, from which is still recovering. His recovery will be lengthy and cause him to miss work during much of the time.
We ask you to join us in helping Chris through this difficult time.
A fundraising event is being held by his friends and colleagues to help provide financial relief for our favorite Captain. There will be casting demonstrations, fun contests, and lots of good cheer. Silent and live auctions will be held including trips from all over Texas, mothership trips to the Chandeleur Islands, fly fishing trips in the mountains, as well as international trips to Ambergris Cay Belize and Huatulco, Mexico. We even have a guide trip for 2 days with legendary Flip Pallot of ESPN Walkers Cay Chronicles! Gear has been donated from top companies like Shimano, Scott Fly Rods, Sage Fly Rods, Orvis, G-Loomis, Fishing Tackle Unlimited, Tibor Reels, and Abel Reels to name just a few. Kayaks from Emotion and Legacy Paddle Sports and accessories will be here as well along with knives by Diamond Blade and various outdoors artworks by some of the best names in the business. A “Who’s Who” of Texas fishing will be in attendance so if you’re a fisherman, you can’t afford to miss this. Best of all, all proceeds got to help Chris in his recovery!
We’ll also have a special $100 raffle for three premium prizes. (Only 300 tickets so contact us quickly!!) 1st prize is a new Beavertail BTX Skiff powered with a 50 Evinrude E-Tec, with custom trailer and accessories ($25,000 value). 2nd prize is a Premium Scott STS Fly Rod with a Ross Evolution Reel and SA’s new Sharkskin Fly Line. 3rd prize is a guided day of bass fishing with professional bass angler John Bowen.
The event will be held on Sunday March 30th from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Blanco's Bar and Grill, 3406 West Alabama @ Buffalo Spdwy. in Houston, TX.
